Vivamus, Moriendum Est
The mission of those who join VME Catholic is simple: to organize Catholic community. This is accomplished in many ways, but here are a few examples:
Organize events open to the public which apply the three F's of a good event: it should be free, it should have food, and it should be fun.
Spread the word about already-existing Catholic community and events over starting a competing group.
Provide useful resources that will help the local community get connected with each other - such as creating newsletters, social media content, shared calendars, and more.
The old Latin phrase from which VME Catholic gets its name (at the top of the page) is a military saying of the old Roman Empire. Translated is says "Let us live, since we must die." In a way it is a combination of both Memento Mori (Remember Your Death) and Carpe Diem (Seize The Day), reminding us that we must live each day to the fullest because our lives on this earth are short.
As Catholic Christians we are members of Christ's Church which is made up of three parts - the Church Militant, the Church Penitent, and the Church Triumphant. Those of us present on the earth are part of Christ's Church Militant - we are His army meant to go win souls and bring them Home. We march into the battle not with swords or guns, not to seize land or conquer people, but to tear down the walls that trap in the prisoners of the world and to invite them into the Kingdom of God.
In Scripture it does not say, "The gates of Heaven shall prevail" because of course they will, evil can never overpower God; instead it says that, "The gates of Hell shall not prevail against the Church" which means the Enemy cannot keep us out, he cannot win for we have Christ on our side. And with this promise that the gates of Hell shall fail we are called to go rescue those captured by or imprisoned in the world and invite them out of their prisons.
